Our previous Music Director - Stephen Dodsworth
Stephen Dodsworth has been at the heart of music-making in Stratford-upon Avon for thirty years, and has been Music Director of Stratford-upon-Avon Choral Society since 1990. He is the longest serving Music Director in the Society's history!
Stephen was appointed Director of Music at King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon, in 1989. He became Music Director of Stratford Choral Society just one year later, in 1990. He also joined the staff of Holy Trinity Church as Deputy Director of Music in 1991, and in 1993 he founded Stratford Chamber Choir, a select group of some two dozen voices.
Stephen is well known in the world of Choral Singing. For over thirty years he worked on the staff of courses for choral singers run by the Royal School of Church Music, for which body he also devised and directed courses for Choral Directors.
Stephen is an accomplished organist, pianist, and composer. His compositions include Time's Glory for choir and orchestra, commissioned by Stratford Choral Society to celebrate the Millennium and first performed in March 2000.
In 2012 Stephen transcribed and edited the recently rediscovered Messe Solonelle by Joseph Touchmoulin (1727 - 1801). This work was found after being lost for over 200 years. When the choir performed it in 2013, it was almost certainly the UK premier.
