Summer Singing with Stratford Choral Society 2024

Each summer we learn a programme of less formal music, and it is an opportunity to try out something different – shorter pieces and less classical than our usual fare. We also invite non-members to come and sing with us.

This year we will be singing songs by William Shakespeare, in arrangements by contemporary composers. The principal work will be a jazzy compilation of songs and sonnets by George Shearing.

The programme will include

  • Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare by George Shearing

  • ‘Come away, come away death’ by Howard Skempton

  • ‘When that I was and a little tiny boy’ by Alan Bullard

  • ‘Touch her soft lips and part’ by William Walton

  • ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’ by Owain Park

Come and try us out! We invite non-members to join us as guest singers for this summer programme. No audition is needed but you should have some experience of choral singing and you should be able to read music. Find out if you enjoy singing with us and if you do you can join as a full member at the start of our next season in September.

We will be rehearsing each Monday from April 15th through to June 10th with the exception of the two May bank holidays, and our concert is on June 15th. Rehearsals and concert will be at St Andrew’s Church, Shottery and run from 7:30pm to 9:15pm.

The fee is £42 which covers participation in rehearsals and in the concert on June 15th. You will also have to pay £2 for music hire.
